We invest a lot of time finding the highest quality fabrics. This is extremely important to us, as is who we buy our material from and the tailors who make our clothes.

We are all about supporting local craftspeople providing them with a way of selling their amazing garments abroad.

Many of likemary clothes are made from the last remaining rolls of beautiful fabric. We love this because it means that garments really cannot be mass produced and you’ll probably be the only one you know wearing this style in this print.

Merino wool

Merino wool is amazing and is the inspiration of likemary. Nicky’s black Takhi Shawl, after many expeditions, continuous to look as gorgeous as the day she bought it.

Why is it amazing:

Due to the interlocking structure of Merino fibres it is super strong and durable which is why you can literally wear likemary Merino wool scarves, shawls and throws for life.

For some of us, merino wool doesn’t have the itchiness normally associated with wool because the fibres from the Merino sheep’s fleece are much finer, more flexible and softly bend.

The fibre is very breathable, efficiently wicking moisture away from your body, through the wool and away into the atmosphere to keep you warm, cool and dry. Wool wonderfully protects your skin against the sun’s harmful UV rays.

likemary Merino wool scarves, shawls and throws are handwoven on traditional looms by a cooperative society in the Himalayan mountains.  By buying likemary Merino wool products you are helping to sustain the livelihood of these amazing craftspeople.

We recommend you care for your 100% Merino wool product by drycleaning it.

Garments are carefully pressed and folded, ready to be posted to you. Before wearing, your item will greatly benefit from steaming or ironing to remove the creases created by packing.

Cotton

We love 100% cotton as it’s hypoallergenic, durable, environmentally friendly, soft, lightweight and super breathable.

Because pure cotton is a natural fibre it loves tender loving care. To retain colour and shape we highly recommend washing in cold water, either on a delicate cycle in your machine or, even better, by hand. Dark and light colours should be washed separately.

Pure Silk

Nothing feels as luxurious and special as pure silk, and that is why we love it. Made from spinning the fibres from the silkworm’s cocoon, it is the most hypoallergenic of all fabrics. Smooth to the touch, we use a beautiful soft, matt silk which is durable, light and breathable.

We recommend that silk fabrics are hand washed to keep them looking beautiful.

Cotton & Silk

We blend silk and cotton to make a stronger fabric with has the amazing look and feel of silk.  This blend of 60% cotton and 40% silk creates a strong durable fibre which is hypo allergenic, soft, highly absorbent, let’s your skin breathe and has the beautiful radiance of silk.

We recommend you hand wash cotton & silk fabrics in cold water to keep them looking gorgeous.

Rayon, Viscose & Modal

We use high quality rayon, viscose and modal fabrics. These, more expensive, semi-synthetic fibres are made by spinning naturally occurring cellulose, primarily from tree pulp. Modal is made from beech trees!

Depending on how the fabrics are created, they can be made to look and feel like the natural fibres of silk or cotton. They are breathable, soft, smooth, light and drape beautifully.

The first time you wash your garment we recommend hand washing, after which you can wash it on a delicate machine cycle.
